The launch of an area-wide billboard campaign on more than 150 traditional and digital billboards throughout the Houston area to be displayed for this hurricane season, which ends November 30, will be located at Houston City Hall – Legacy Room, 901 Bagby St., Houston, TX 77002.
It will be on Wednesday, June 5, immediately following Houston City Council’s adjournment, approximately 10:30 or 11 a.m..
Key Speakers:
- John Whitmire, City of Houston, Mayor
- Martha Castex-Tatum, City of Houston, Mayor Pro-Tem
- Thomas Mouton, Houston Association of Realtors, Chair
- Ricardo Gonzalez, Houston Association of Realtors, Spanish-Speaking Representative
- Jeffry Evans, Meteorologist in Charge, National Weather Service-Houston/Galveston
- Lee Vela, Public Affairs, Clear Channel Outdoor-Houston
Each speaker other than the Mayor will be available for one-on-one interviews following the press conference.
Clear Channel Outdoor and HAR have joined forces on this campaign to encourage the public to buy flood insurance as a precaution in the event a major storm hits the area. With more than 80 major storms in the past several decades, it is almost certain to happen again. More than 70% of homes that flooded during Hurricane Harvey did not have flood insurance. The messages will be carried on more than 150 area-wide billboards, both traditional and digital units. The messages will be in English and Spanish and direct residents to www.HAR.com/flood for more information on how to purchase insurance and assess their flood risk.
